Major Talibah Simmons

Major Talibah Simmons

Investigations Division

With an impressive tenure of 23 years in law enforcement, Major Talibah Simmons’ journey with the City of Miami Gardens Police Department commenced in November 2007, when she donned the badge as an officer of the Department.  However, her dedication to upholding justice predates this, as she previously honed her investigative skills as a Detective for the Florida Department of Financial Services and ardently served the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department as a School Resource Officer.

In July 2014, she was elevated to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Professional Compliance Section (PCS), where her responsibilities encompassed conducting thorough employment backgrounds and spearheading internal investigations. Over the subsequent years, she rapidly ascended the ranks.  By January 2016, she wore the bars of a Captain and was assigned to the Support Services Division. This pivotal role entrusted her with ensuring the seamless operations of crucial units like the Training Unit, Real-Time Crime Center, Communications Center, and Emergency Operations.

In a testament to her adaptability and leadership, in November 2016, she was reassigned to PCS, and less than two years later, in July 2018, she was honored with the rank of Commander of PCS.  In November 2021, building on her achievements, she advanced to Major of the Investigations Division where she now serves.

Major Simmons’ commitment to excellence is mirrored in her academic achievements.  She proudly holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Florida International University.  This achievement is complemented by a Bachelor of Science, where she graduated with honors, Cum Laude, from Alabama State University.  Additionally, she is an esteemed graduate of the 81st Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course.  She is a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Professionals and the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police.
