Responsibilities


The City Manager is appointed by the Mayor, confirmed by the City Council and serves as the administrative head of the city government. The City Manager is responsible for the City's daily operations, including decisions relating to staff, resources and provision of the daily services, enforcement of City laws and ordinances, preparation of the annual budget and attendance at Council

Biography


Cameron D. Benson is a distinguished public administration professional with more than 30 years of experience in local, county and regional government. Mr. Benson was appointed City Manager for the City of Miami Gardens in October 2013. In his capacity of City Manager, Mr. Benson is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City and faithfully executing the laws of the City Charter and directives of the City Council.

Prior to joining the Miami Gardens’ team, Mr. Benson began his career as a Planner with the Broward County Government. He served as the Economic Development Representative for the City of Fort Lauderdale and was responsible for regional economic development initiatives as a Senior Planner with the South Florida Regional Planning Council.

In 1995, he began his sixteen (16) year career with the City of Hollywood as an Assistant City Manager and served as the Deputy City Manager before being appointed City Manager in 2002. He served the City of Hollywood for nine (9) years as the City Manager. Mr. Benson’s comprehensive grasp of the fundamentals of public administration and keen ability to organize professionals has garnered widespread acknowledgement. Mr. Benson’s commitment to public policy has also earned recognition from colleagues nationwide.

Mr. Benson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Illinois and a Master of Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University.
