Assistant City Attorneys assist the City Attorney in providing legal advice, support and direction to the City Council and the City staff in their capacity of performing official City duties.
Biography
Upon graduating from Miami Norland Senior High School, Nicole Dixon Scott matriculated to Fisk University in Nashville, TN where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1991. Mrs. Dixon Scott then attended the University of Miami School of Law where she earned her Jurist Doctor in 1996.
Prior to joining the City of Miami Gardens Police Department as their Police Legal Advisor, Mrs. Dixon Scott worked for Miami-Dade Police Department, Police Legal Bureau as a Police Legal Advisor. She was responsible for providing legal advice to the Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, command staff and other sworn police officials and conducting research on a variety of legal issues affecting the department. She also prosecuted civil forfeiture actions, coordinated various litigation matters, and reviewed departmental documents for legal sufficiency. Other duties include legal instruction at the Miami-Dade Public Safety Training Institute, reviewing amendments to Florida Statutes, and drafting ordinances and resolutions.
Prior to working for the Miami-Dade Police Department, Mrs. Dixon-Scott worked for the Office of the Attorney General, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As an Assistant Attorney General, Mrs. Dixon-Scott, represented the State of Florida in child welfare matters, provided counsel advice to Protective Investigators and Community-Based Care ("CBC") partners in child welfare legal issues, coordinated with those Investigators and CBC partners to review potential cases and prepared those personnel as witnesses in filed cases, and representing the State in all Chapter 39 dependency cases, at the trial court.
