Biography

Katrina Baskin embodies the spirit and resilience of Miami Gardens, a city that not only nurtured her dreams but also shaped her destiny. Educated in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system, Katrina's early aspirations ranged from law and politics to education. Her journey took a decisive turn towards education as she completed her undergraduate studies in Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University, inspired by a profound desire to impact the lives of children positively.

Transitioning into education, Katrina discovered her true calling. As an elementary school teacher, she became a beacon of hope and a relentless advocate for underprivileged children. Her innovative teaching methods, unwavering commitment to student success, and dedication to fostering inclusive environments distinguished her early on. Pursuing excellence, Katrina furthered her expertise with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Over 17 years, Katrina devoted herself to what are often termed as " turnaround schools" within the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. Serving in roles that ranged from Teacher and Reading Transformation Coach to Curriculum Support Specialist, she was instrumental in driving educational transformations. Her efforts, especially as part of the Division of Academic Support in the Education Transformation Office, led to the elimination of "D" and "F" rated schools across the district, culminating in Miami-Dade County Public Schools achieving its first-ever "A" designation in 2018. Her impact has been recognized both locally and nationally, marking her as a distinguished figure in education.

Beyond the classroom, Katrina's visionary leadership extends into her community work. Through Linked Educational Consulting Services LLC, she has enriched the lives of countless children and supported the professional growth of emerging educators. Katrina's commitment to her community is also evident in her organization of mentorship programs focused on financial literacy, her efforts to combat gun violence through annual symposiums, and her advocacy for health and wellness among African American communities.

Katrina’s personal journey as a mother to Trinity and Travis II has been her source of joy and inspiration, fueling her passion to create a brighter future for all children in Miami Gardens. As she steps into the political arena, Katrina Baskin stands ready to leverage her vast experience, her deep-rooted connection to the community, and her unwavering commitment to service, aiming to spearhead initiatives that will empower every resident of Miami Gardens, from the youngest learners to the eldest citizens.
