Biography
Jeannette Smith is currently the Community Development Director for the City of Miami Gardens. Mrs. Smith is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the department consisting of planning and implementing neighborhood projects, monitoring the federal/state housing grant programs and building a relationship with the community.  
In the past, she has coordinated several local, regional and national conferences on neighborhood development issues and on the use of federal/state funding. Ms. Smith has managed several housing development projects to create affordable/workforce housing to essential personnel that desires to live in South Florida.  
Prior to joining the City of Miami Gardens, Mrs. Smith began her career in Banking then joined the City of Hollywood for over 16 years as Housing Counselor and later served as Interim Community Development Director.  Being a part of the Management Team for the City of Hollywood, she accepted a wider range of other responsibilities. These duties included coordinating the City of Hollywood’s first “Super Saturday in the Sand” Super Bowl event held during the 2007 Super Bowl XLI weekend, was also responsible for the 2010 Super Bowl activities, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend celebration, and the annual Citywide Toy Drive. These additional responsibilities are strategic missions that contribute to the positive relationships with residents in the Hollywood communities.
Jeannette was selected by Success Magazine in February 2007 as one of 50 Most Powerful & Influential Black Professional in South Florida. She was included in the inaugural edition in April, 2007 in Who’s Who in Black South Florida. Mrs. Smith was nominated for the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce 2008 Glass Ceiling Award, received the 2009 Special Recognition Award by the African American Achievers, received Hollywood City Manager’s Community Outreach Award in March 2009, the Broward County Housing and Community Development Task Force 2016 Member of the Year and the 2017 Woman of the Year from the Plantation Garden Club.
Mrs. Smith has served as the City of Hollywood’s Staff Liaison for the Community Development Advisory Board, the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Liberia Economic & Social Development, Inc., and Hollywood Housing Authority. In addition, she is the past president of the Florida Community Development Association, serving on the Executive Board of the National Community Development Association, member of Neighborhoods USA, past president of the Broward County Housing and Community Development Task Force, Fannie Mae Florida Partnership Advisory Board, and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Leadership Hollywood XXIII. Jeannette has served on the Executive Board of the Miami Dade Urban Bankers Association, Past President of the Miami Tuskegee Alumni Association, and the Comerica Bank Advisory Board.
Jeannette holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Tuskegee University and various community development certificates. She has been married for 34 years to Thaddeus and is the proud mother of two sons, Vincent 28 and Ryan 27 and excited for her first granddaughter, Kennedy Rose Smith who is one year old.
