3. How can I prevent my car from being stolen?

Do not leave your keys in the vehicle (even in a locked garage) or in another vehicle in the same driveway. Do not leave your car running while you go inside, even for just a “minute”. Consider getting a vehicle alarm or installing a mechanical device that locks the steering wheel.

4. Why is my tow bill so high after my vehicle was recovered?

When a stolen car is recovered, an attempt to contact you will be made by a MGPD employee. Your vehicle will most likely go to a tow yard. If contact with you was unsuccessful, the next step would be for the tow yard to send you a notice in the mail. They are only required to send the notice to the address on your registration. If you do not have that information updated, you may not get the notice and your tow bill will increase daily.

You can get a copy of your police report by responding to our Records Unit, located in the police headquarters building located adjacent to City Hall at 18611 N.W. 27 Avenue. They are open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
