Mayor's Annual Laptop Giveaway


The Annual Laptop Giveaway recognizes and rewards the exemplary scholastic achievements of seniors at Miami Carol City, Miami Norland, and Miami Northwestern Senior High School. The giveaways take place during the school's end-of-year award ceremony. Recipients are selected by counselors and teachers from each school. The Mayor's Annual Laptop Giveaway is funded by contributions from local businesses throughout the City of Miami Gardens. Mayor Oliver Gilbert gave away fifty computers during the 2013-14 school year.


City of Miami Gardens Emergency Home Repair Program


The City of Miami Gardens Emergency Home Repair Program provides elderly Residents and income restricted owners of homes in need of substantial repair access to emergency home repair services. The City partnered with the Urban Construction Craft Academy to provide the service to Residents.

Mayor's Early Start Summer Reading Program


The Early Start Summer Reading Program provides a free early readers curriculum for children ages five to seven. The program focuses on enhancing students' phonics, phonemic awareness, and reading and writing skills. The ten week program takes place over the summer. Upon completion of the program, students receive a starter home library kit, consisting of five early reading books as well as other literary materials.


Mayor's Mentoring Initiative


The Mentoring Initiative pairs students from Miami Carol City and Miami Norland Senior High School with employees of the City of Miami Gardens, who serve as mentors to these youth. The program encourages local high school students to set career goals and start taking steps to realize them. It also provides our youth an opportunity to gain practical skills outside of the classroom. The City partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami for this school-to-work program.


Mayor's Fitness Challenge


The Fitness Challenge is a ten week program that encourages Residents to live healthier lifestyles and increase their physical activity. The City provides three free fitness classes per week at different parks throughout the community. Classes include Kickboxing, Aquafit (Water Aerobics), Bootcamp, Plyometrics, Walking/Running, Pilates, Yoga, and much more.
