Adopt A Road
Miami Gardens encourages local business and organizations to join the Public Works Department in the Adopt-A-Road Program - an exciting effort to enhance the appearance of our communities and beautify our roadways.
By “adopting” a road, civic-minded groups and individuals will directly contribute to the beautification of Miami Gardens, help strengthen pride in our community, and help to improve the quality of life for all Miami Gardens residents. These efforts may also assist in maintaining or increasing property values in areas affected by litter. It also enables Public Works' maintenance crews to devote more time to other much needed road maintenance and special highway projects.
As part of the adoption agreement, organizations commit to hold scheduled cleanup events at least four times a year in accordance with prescribed safety guidelines. The City assists by providing safety training, supplies needed for the cleanup, and removing and disposing of the collected trash after each clean-up event. Most importantly, we will proudly display your name or the name of your organization at the “adopted” road, so that you can be recognized for your efforts to” Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful”.
When volunteers participate in the Adopt-A-Road Program, a grassroots partnership is created that cleans up the community and fosters a sense of civic pride. If you would like more information on how you can get involved with the Adopt-A-Road Program, please call the Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful office at (305) 622-8009.
Only 4 days a year can make a big difference!
Why adopt a road?
Miami Gardens Department of Public Works is committed to providing the citizens of Miami Gardens with a clean and environmentally safe community. Volunteers are needed to monitor and pick up litter and other debris thrown onto our roadways by careless or irresponsible citizens. By volunteering to pick up litter at least four times a year on a selected road, you can make a tremendous impact on the appearance of your neighborhood and Miami Gardens.
Who can participate?
The Adopt-A-Road Program is open to any individual or family, or any civic, business or church group located or residing within Miami Gardens. Participants must be a minimum of 12 years old. Groups with members less than 16 years old must be supervised by an adult (18 years or older). At least one adult is required for every five participants less than 16 years old.
What am I expected to do?
You can request a specific road or section of road for adoption, or we can suggest one for you. However, for safety reasons, some roads may be ineligible for adoption (narrow shoulders, no shoulders or roads with limited sight distances). Groups are requested to adopt a one-mile section of a city road right-of-way for a minimum of two years. We ask that “adoptees” remove litter a minimum of four (4) times a year, but litter should be picked up from your adopted road as needed.
What materials do I need?
Miami Gardens will provide you with portable safety warning signs, safety vests, and plastic bags for use during clean-up activities. We strongly recommend that clean-up attire should consist of light-colored clothing, pants, long-sleeved shirts, brightly-colored hats, heavy gloves and sturdy soled footwear.
How do I sign up?
We have a complete volunteer packet, including the program guidelines and other necessary forms explaining the program before you get started! Contact the Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful office at (305) 622-8009 for more details.
Note: Two clean-ups (within a six-month period) are required prior to posting of
road signs with your group's name.
