Bio of Councilman Oliver G. Gilbert III, Seat 6
Oliver G. Gilbert is a life long resident of the area that is now Miami Gardens. He is a graduate of Miami Norland Senior High School; Florida A & M University; and University of Miami School of Law. Mr. Gilbert’s first position after law school was as the legislative assistant to State Representative Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall.
He has also served as an Assistant State Attorney in Broward County; Mr. Gilbert is Of Counsel with the firm of Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske, P.A. Oliver also serves as Chairman of the Board of Florida Ocean and Sciences Institute, which provides rehabilitative services for at risk youth. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Jessie Trice Community Health Centers, which provides healthcare services for low income families. He is a member of the T.J. Reddick Bar Association; Haitian Lawyers Association; North County Citizen’s Association; Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University National Alumni Association; the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated; and Miami Fellows –Class V.
Mr. Gilbert was appointed to the City Council on March 26, 2008 to fill the vacant Seat 6 and was elected to office in the City’s August 26th, 2008 election.
