About us
The City of Miami Gardens, Department of Community Development was first organized in October of 2006. It received its first funding allocation for the 2006-2007 Fiscal Year in the amount of $1,429,030 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The 2007-2008 Fiscal Year allocation was slightly lower, $1,420,030.
The Department also received its first allocation of $613,090 for the 2007/2008 Fiscal Year of State Housing Initiative Program (SHIP) Program funds from the Florida Housing Finance Corporation and an additional allocation of $545,000 from the Miami-Dade Office of Community and Economic Development.
All of these funds are utilized to carry out the various activities that the residents of the community identified as needed and are reflected in the Department’s Annual Action Plan and Local Housing Assistance Plan submitted annually to HUD and Florida Housing Finance Corporation respectively.
The Department of Community Development offers a very diverse range of programs. These programs include, but are not limited to, Housing Rehabilitation, Homeownership Assistance, Hurricane Repair and Mitigation, Business Incentive Loans, Infrastructure Improvements, and Youth and Elderly Services.
The Department will continue to administer their programs while seeking additional funding sources. We will also continue collaborating with other municipalities and agencies as a means of leveraging all possible resources to assist the needs of our community.

Mission
The mission of the Department of Community Development is to utilize the grant funds

and expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate
income.
The Department’s efforts in carrying out a wide range of community development activities
are directed towards neighborhood revitalization, economic development, improved
