Assistant City Manager
Assistant City Manager, Mr. Steers assists the City Manager in
the general operation of the City, including areas of policy decisions, staffing,
establishing service levels, funding opportunities, and interaction with elected
officials and members of the community. Mr. Steers is responsible for all departments and currently provides line responsibility for the
following specific areas: the development, direct oversight, and management of the
City Code Enforcement, Building, and Planning and Zoning Departments. Mr. Steers
also manages the development of the City’s first Comprehensive Development Master
Plan, Business Services and related program development, the Code of Ordinances
revision and re-write process (including developing new Land Development Regulations),
and other special projects as assigned by the City Manager.
Bio of Christopher D. Steers, Assistant City Manager
Mr. Steers performed his duties an Assistant
to the City Manager for Business Services for his first year with the City of Miami
Gardens and was there after promoted. Prior to his employment with Miami Gardens,
Mr. Steers was employed by the City of Sunny Isles Beach for over five years as
the Director of the Code Enforcement & Licensing Department. Mr. Steers was
instrumental in the start up of that City, creating the enforcement department and
drafting over 30 City Ordinances and Resolutions aimed at effective service delivery
and community development. He was also employed by Miami-Dade County for about five
years performing duties as a Neighborhood Compliance Supervisor for Team Metro’s Northeast
Region and as an Animal Control Investigator and Supervisor with the Miami-Dade Public
Works Department.
He holds a B.A. in General Studies & Sociology from University of Miami and is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Public Administration from
Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Steers is also a Certified Code Enforcement Administrator,
Licensing Official, and Animal Cruelty Investigator. He is also a member of the
International City/County Managers Association, the American Planning Association,
the Florida Association of Code Enforcement, the Florida Association of Occupational
Licensing Officials, and the American Taekwondo Association.
