Planning (Long-Range)
The Long-Range Planning process includes research, data collection, analysis, preparing
inventories and reports to better understand the environment and facilitate the
City Council’s decisions in executing the multi-year plans. Planning staff utilizes
the City of Miami Gardens residents’ vision and their directives through active
public participation via charrettes and workshops to improve the quality of life
and to support healthy environments. The Planning and Zoning Division staff focuses
on Land use planning to accommodate current and future growth per the State’s Growth
Management Laws. This Division also analyses the City's population and employment;
monitors growth and development and evaluates urban land capacity. We work with
other City and County departments, schools and water and sewer districts to assess
and improve the City's capital facilities. We also use Geographic Information System
(GIS), to create a wide variety of maps illustrating the County's plans and projects
(A brand new GIS website is currently under construction and will be available very
soon).
