Councilmember
Council Members are elected by the voters to serve on the City Council. Four are elected from their geographic districts and two are elected Citywide. Council Members participate as equal members of the Council, in deliberating City business and setting policy.

     Bio of Councilmember Oliver Gilbert III, Esq., Seat 6

Oliver Gilbert is a resident of Miami Gardens here in Miami Dade County.  He is a graduate of Miami Norland Senior High School; Florida A & M University; and University of Miami School of Law.  Mr. Gilbert’s first position after law school was as the legislative assistant to State Representative Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall. He has also served as an Assistant State Attorney in Broward County; and as an associate with Weiss Serota Helfman law firm.  Currently, he is a partner in the law firm of Lewis Stroud and Deutsch.

 Oliver is very active in the community.  He serves on the board of Florida Ocean and Sciences Institute, a school that provides rehabilitative services for at risk youth; Concerned African Women- an organization that provides family development services for low income families; and Economic Opportunity Family Health Centers- an organization that provides healthcare services for low income families.

 Mr. Gilbert was appointed to the City Council on March 26, 2008 to fill the vacant Seat 6 until the City’s August 26th, 2008 election.
