Bio of Councilmember Oliver Gilbert III, Esq., Seat 6
Oliver Gilbert is a
resident of Miami Gardens here in Miami Dade County. He is a graduate of
Miami Norland Senior High School;
Florida A & M University;
and University of Miami School of Law. Mr. Gilbert’s
first position after law school was as the legislative
assistant to State Representative Dorothy
Bendross-Mindingall. He has also served as an Assistant
State Attorney in Broward County;
and as an associate with Weiss Serota Helfman law firm.
Currently, he is a partner in the law firm of Lewis Stroud
and Deutsch.
Oliver is very active in the community.
He serves on the board of
Florida
Ocean and Sciences
Institute, a school that provides rehabilitative services
for at risk youth; Concerned African Women- an organization
that provides family development services for low income
families; and Economic Opportunity Family Health Centers- an
organization that provides healthcare services for low
income families.
Mr. Gilbert was appointed to the City
Council on March 26, 2008 to fill the vacant Seat 6 until
the City’s August 26th, 2008 election.
