Bio of Councilwoman Barbara Watson, Seat 2
Mrs. Watson began her public service as a Director for the Andover Civic Association in 1992 and continues to serve her immediate 1000-home community at that post. As a community leader she successfully spearheaded a Concerned Citizens Group for eleven years, to preserve the quality of life and value of homes against development that could have adversely affected property values in her community.
She became a member of C.I.N.D., an organization comprised of leading business owners along the State Road 441 corridor, other businesses, the Andover Civic Association, and members of Dade County District 1. This organization raised and matched funds to a County Community Block Grant, with a goal to build an athletic building at Norland High School’s Park. She is the owner of Watson Antique and Classic Cars, a limousine service providing antique cars for weddings and other occasions. She served as a Director on the Florida Limousine Association of South Florida and was elected by her piers in Dade and Broward counties to serve on the Dade County Limousine Advisory Board.
The Advisory board was instrumental in drafting of the Limousine Ordinance that currently governs Dade County’s ground transportation companies. Her public service activities include: Miami Dade County North Dade Task Force; the North Dade Municipal Advisory Committee, the Committee to Incorporate Miami Gardens, the Broward–Dade Counties Transportation Task Force and the Andover Civic Association.
Ms. Watson is married and has six children and seven grandchildren. She was appointed Vice Mayor in July 2007.
